Which area is better Elmwood park IL or Plainfield IL
I work from home so I don’t have to worry about commuting for work.
I have family in both areas.
I want a kids friendly area with good schools and low crime.
I have three boys (11, 7 & 5)
Each area has it’s pro and cons, just want some other opinions.

Plainfield is going to prob. have larger lots and more open spaces for your family . But it’s farther from the city. Elmwood Park is pretty nice, but smaller lots . Plainfield would def. be the lower crime area.
All I know of the two is location, and Plainfield seems to me like the middle of nowhere – 1/2 hour south of Naperville. You’re closer to Chicago’s cultural opportunities in Elmwood Park and being an older community is more developed.
Be very careful with a newer house right now, especially built in the last 3 years. There was such a high demand for drywall that some was imported from China and is making people sick with the toxins. Channel 5 had a report on it recently and it affects houses all over the US. More a chance of that in Plainfield than Elmwood Park.
I also hope you’re job is secure of you look into mortgage insurance to protect you in the event of a job loss. I work out of home too and times are lean, though I’m an architect and perhaps your profession is more depression proof (I hope!)
We wish we could but a new place right now with the low rates, lower prices. And you get a tax credit for a first time buyer.
Best wishes!
Both areas are nice, but I’d go with Plainfield. I like it better over there.
they are both nice have been to both towns before. Bolingbrook is also a nice place to live they have a lot of nice homes there and its a pretty good area. Also If you live in Plainfield i think its called Tornado Alley jus tto let you know that.
