How to Buy a Very Affordable House in Suburb of Chicago?

by admin on

I’ve been looking through foreclosures in nicer neighborhoods outside of Chicago in IL, and they are all around 300k. That doesn’t sound like a foreclosure price to me!! Where is the best place to find the BEST DEALS on homes in the area you’d like to live in?

Thank you!
I’m a snob for wanting an affordable home? I’m not a snob, you’re an idiot!

Don’t be such a snob. The area at 51st and the Ryan has some homes real cheap!

I guess it depends on how far out of the city you want to be… and which direction you want to live.

If you’re looking for the NW suburbs Des Plaines is a nice area and parts of it are affordable.

When you click on that site below you can choose to start from "low to high" prices.

Good luck in your search

That depends on how far outside of Chicago you want to go and how big (or small) the home can be.

My girlfriend tried twice to buy a foreclosure house. And both times it fell through. It was a hassle and a legal mess.

Here is a better idea.

Dont live in Chicago. Look at the Twin Cities instead.

(Believe me, everyone in the Midwest will testify to this.)

I don’t think people are reading that you are looking OUTSIDE of Chicago, it seems like there are references to neighborhoods in the city.

However, like the city, the suburbs are kind of "you get what you pay for." If you are looking at the nicer cities around Chicago, what I would consider sort of middle/ upper-middle class… I don’t think you are realistically going to find anything like a typical 3 bedroom single family home below that 300k mark. But I have some suggestions.

1. I would try zillow.com to browse around the areas you are thinking about.

2. If you can find a place on the fringe of development that you’re okay with – you might get a better deal out of a desperate home builder who is trying to cut his or her losses. For good suburban cities, you might look to areas just outside of Huntley (to the NW) or Orland Park (to the SW). These are not immediate suburbs, but they are not far from Chicago and still connected to the whole metro area, though. Both places are relatively close to metra rail and major highways as well as O’Hare and Midway, respectively. Definitely worth a look.
